Marraskuu

November

‘Marras’ is an old Indo-European word that means dead or about to die. It also refers to the dead ones that appear among the living. Marraskuu (November) is the month of reduced colours, thickening fog and increasing darkness. In this series I look for the spirit of November – its melancholia and mystique. Nature rests and the decaying vegetation reminds us of the passage of time, the inevitable mortality. But also of new beginnings that are only possible when one cycle of growth comes to an end.
